Kasanka Supporters

The Kasanka Trust has been fortunate to receive funding for several projects both inside the Park and for the surrounding community.

Unfortunately we cannot mention all individuals who sponsored our students, scouts or made general monthly payments. We are tremendously grateful for your support which is very important to us!

Funding agencies:

  • World Bank / Global Environment Fund provided a grant for a
     feasibility study of the expansion of Kasanka Trust Management to
     Lavushi Manda National Park.
     
  • Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund helped us to improve the protection of the bat forest and
    promote awareness of the importance
    of Kasanka’s bat roost
     through our education program.
     

  • Tusk Trust provided valuable core funding for our conservation activities. They also sponsored the solar system which keeps our headquarters operating!

     
  • The Netherlands Foundation for International Bird Protection,
    the JC van der Hucht Foundation and Martina de Beukelaar Foundation

    provided funding for a survey project of mammals, birds and
    other
    vertebrates in Kasanka (2009)
     
  • Care for the Wild helped with a grant for a truck which has been a tremendous help for transporting scouts, school groups, supplies and building materials.
     
  • Save the Rhino Trust (Zambia) gave money to buy a much needed 4WD vehicle for anti-poaching activities
     
  • The Finnish Embassy in Lusaka has been sponsoring many core activities of the community project
     
  • DELPHE program supported by DFID and British Council assisted the park with improved biodiversity management as well as capacity building of the local staff and local community.
     
  • Holly Hill Trust has been one of our most supportive long term sponsors.
    Their core costs funding helped us to survive difficult periods.
    The trust currently supports our education project.
     
  • The British Government’s Darwin Initiative supported a three year scientific study of Kasanka’s hydrology and fire ecology and the effects of early burning. They sponsored the training of local guides and the Msc scholarships for 2 of our Zambian counterparts. 

 

  • The German Development Service (GDS/DED) have been very strong project partners sponsoring development workers over several years and supporting community development through self help and infrastructure renovation.
     
  • IUCN Netherlands has supported to develop of Community Based Resource Management  in the communal lands around Kasanka
     
  • Conservation Foundation (Zambia) is a locally based charity which has been giving support over many years for equipment such as radios and uniforms, and logistic support such as helicopter use.
     
  • The Beit Trust provided a highly appreciated grant for new lodge buildings and boreholes at Wasa and Luwombwa Lodges, and a second grant for the construction of the Kasanka Conservation Centre.
     
  • Rainforest Concern sponsored the translocation of some buffalo and tsessebe from Bangweulu to Kasanka National Park
     
  • Funding from the States of Guernsey and The German Embassy in Lusaka to build and equip the Chalilo Clinic, with additional funding now received from FIDES in Holland for Clinic staff housing and the rehabilitation of Mpelembe school.
     
  • Maurice Rufford Laing assisted us with much needed core funding.
     
  • The British High Commission funded a borehole and handpump at Miseshi school after the German Embassy had paid for 2 teachers houses to be built there.
     
  • The Danish Embassy funded the completion of the Mulaushi Bridge at the Park entrance.
     
  • The Dutch Embassy funded the Community Relations Project for two and a half years.
     
  • The European Union funded the development of a park management plan and the upgrading of our management system

 

Corporate Sponsors

The Trust is also seeking partnerships with the Zambian business community. So far we have been granted support from:

  • Associated Printers in Lusaka granted us a pop-up display unit to help us promote our conservation work
     
  • Safique in Lusaka allows us to buy materials at a considerable discount.

 

Corporate Sponsors are eligible for a tax reduction in Zambia.
