Sponsorships
Kasanka sponsored 20 students in 2008!
They ended their academic year at the close of November.
Three completed their Grade 12: Higaline Munsaka,
Desmond Chisenga and Gerald Chilwa.

The students and the sponsored
teachers-couple visited Kasanka in August for a four-day
Nature camp and in December for visiting the bats.

News from former sponsored students:
Richard Mulibo started working as financial assistant,
Shebbina Chabala completed NORTEC, Rita Moono, of Kapepa
Community School, has finished her second year at
Malcolm Moffat Teachers’ Training College, Kebby Kunda
was employed as management assistant in the Kasanka
office and Frank Malata started as community relations
assistant.

Conservation
Centre
The new Centre manager Jonas Kunda guided
many local school groups and international visitors
through the Centre. He visited conservation clubs and
local schools and organized a World Environmental Day
celebration with over 100 members of the local
community!

Several school groups spend a few nights
at the Centre, such as Simba School from Zambia’s
Copperbelt, Ranelagh and Beckfoot from the UK and the
International School of Lusaka to learn about Kasanka
and nature conservation.

Kasanka Preschool and first grade was productive with
more than 25 children. The children and teachers are
very happy with their new classroom at Kasanka
Conservation Centre!

Chitambo Health and
Education Project
The Kafinda healthcare and education
project started in April to support Chalilo clinic with
medical supplies, fuel for collection of medicine from
Serenje and for UCI (universal child immunization), and
a salary of a traditional birth attendant. The school
rehabilitation funds under this project are invested in
Chenga OVC (orphaned and vulnerable children) and
Kalungu community school near Chipundu (burial site
David Livingstone). |
